ZOOM ON THE PREDATOR 5000
In a nutshell, the Predator 5000 is a compact portable inverter generator mostly geared towards:
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
- People occasionally participating in outdoor fairs, festivals, or events
- Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
- Camping and tailgating buffs looking to enhance their experience
The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics, the different outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the extra features it benefits from.
POWER & RUN TIME
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Predator 5000 provides a 120V output and offers both versatility and power. When utilizing gasoline, it delivers a running wattage of 3,900W and a starting wattage of 5,000W. Alternatively, when operating on propane, it provides 3,600 running watts and 5,000 starting watts. Furthermore, the parallel capability (parallel kit not included) offers the advantage of increasing power output when connected to another similar or compatible unit, delivering expanded energy capacity and flexibility for various applications.
The inverter generator is rated for a noise of 60.5 dBA (just slightly more noisy than an office). Its starting mechanisms include a standard recoil pull-rope starting mechanism and a practical and straightforward electric starter (battery included). Furthermore, for added convenience, the 5000 offers remote starting capabilities (key fob included).
In terms of run time, the 5000, boasting a 3.7 gallons fuel tank, can run for up to 18.2 hours on a full tank of gasoline (with fuel consumption averaging 0.2 gallons per hour). Additionally, it provides up to 14.6 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.32 GPH) of operation with propane.
With a <3% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), the 5000 delivers a clean sine wave—essential for safeguarding your delicate electronics when plugged into its AC outlets.
OUTLETS
The control panel features the upcoming 3 AC outlets:
It also sports 3 DC outlets: there’s two 5V USB ports (1 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C) allowing you to conveniently charge electronics such as mobile phones and tablets and a 12V 8A receptacle providing easy battery charging capabilities.
Thanks to its TT-30R receptacle (TT meaning ‘Travel Trailer’), this Predator generator is RV Ready, ready to power your recreational vehicle with ease.
PORTABILITY
The Predator 5000 is distinguished by its enclosed inverter generator design (L25 x W18 x H20.8 in), providing improved aesthetics and quieter performance compared to traditional, open frame units. The design follows the contemporary trends and is perfect for recreationally generating power.
With a weight of 110 lbs, the generator is still labeled as ‘portable,’ denoting its ability to be moved, although its heaviness might restrict easy portability. However, the constrained maneuverability is addressed with the assistance of its set of 4 wheels (⌀5.5″) and its telecospic handle, allowing for easy shifting once the generator is placed on the ground.
FEATURES
Featuring a digital data center on its control panel, the 5000 offers you convenient access to essential information about the voltage, power output and lifetime run hours, facilitating effective monitoring of its activity and status.
In addition to this info, when the oil level is too low, the generator is overloaded and the generator is ready, you will be informed by the featured light indicators.
Featuring a built-in fuel gauge, the inverter generator offers quick, convenient, and easy gas level checks at a glance.
Regarding security, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, providing peace of mind during operation.
The unit also benefits from the Predator’s CO SECURE™ carbon monoxide detection. This system monitors the accumulation of CO gas while the generator is running and will shut off the engine if the levels become dangerously high.
In addition to the traditional documentation and an owner’s manual(opens in a new tab) to help you get started promptly, the Predator 5000 also includes several accessories: funnel, battery charging cables, tool kit, propane hose, key fob and 3 altitude kits.

THE PREDATOR 5000 VERSUS OTHER GENERATORS
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Predator 5000 compare to inverter generators of similar power (between 3500 and 4500 W).
- At a weight of 110 pounds, the Predator 5000 places in the expected weight range of the inverter generators in the 3500-4500 rated wattage range. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Genmax GM4600iAEFIC, with a dry weight of just 58.4 pounds.
- With noise emissions reaching as low as 60.5 dBA, this inverter generator has a noise level typical for devices of its type and power category. If you value reduced noise levels, the Westinghouse iGen4500DF could be worth considering. It’s one of the quietest generators in its power range, rated at 52 dBA.
- The 5000, offering a run time of up to 18.2 hours with a full tank at a 25% load, falls within the average autonomy range when compared to its peers. Furthermore, considering the run times, one of the generators which have a roughly same power output, with the highest autonomy, is the Firman W03661OF, as it provides up to 25 hours.
- Run time is a key metric, but it’s dependent on the generator’s fuel tank capacity. Therefore, discussing fuel efficiency is necessary for a complete understanding. Standing at an estimated 0.2 GPH (gallon per hour) at a 25% load, this inverter generator is somewhat average in this area compared to other devices, within the aforementioned wattage range. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Champion 200988, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.16 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Here’s a list of the most popular specific comparisons:
- Predator 5000 vs Predator 3500
- Predator 5000 vs Predator 4550
- Predator 5000 vs Predator 9500
- Predator 5000 vs Westinghouse iGen4500DFc
PRICE COMPARISON
